Why yoga

Your phone flashes. Another request. Another to-do.

The car needs petrol, the kids need breakfast and you were meant to clean the house last week. It’s been forever since you’ve had a moment to yourself and you’re feeling it. Sore back, stiff neck and that lingering sense of guilt. You know you should be looking after yourself but there’s never enough time. I totally get it because I was totally there.

After suffering from mental, physical and emotional injuries, yoga helped to heal my soul while giving me a physical strength I had never known before.

There are a myriad of benefits to this age-old practice and it all begins with the breath. To hold asana (or yoga postures,) you’re required to breath deeply and this naturally shifts the body into a calmer state of being.

Suddenly, thoughts will flood your mind.

Did you return that book last week? Have you prepared for tomorrow’s presentation?

When we start “thinking”, yoga encourages us to return to our breath and the moment at hand.

Perhaps its the sweet scent of vanilla in the air, or the waves crashing against the rocks outside. There is beauty in these moments and we all too often miss them.

You might have heard this referred to as ‘mindfulness.’ Simply put, it’s our ability to focus awareness on our feelings, physical sensations and surrounding environment in a gentle, accepting sprint. As you flow from one asana to another, you’ll find comfort, calm and a growing sense of strength.

Yoga is a phenomenal practise that’ll enhance your everyday life, long after you’ve rolled up your mat. Below are just a few reasons why people continue to fall in love with this practise, and I’ll unpack these with you as we journey together.
